Some early buyers of the new iPhone 11 have grumbled about finding unexpected scratches on their phones.

A thread on the Apple support forum is gaining traction among iPhone 11 users who claim the screen seems to be prone to scratching.

“The screen feels like it can get scratches or smears when not even in contact with sharp or rough surfaces,” one user wrote.

“My iPhone 11 looks worse after one week than my iPhone 7 did after three years.”

Another user Sav wrote: “I put my phone in my back pocket … and upon taking it out … there is a MONSTER deep gash now

“Really, really unsettling considering that it’s … a phone. And phones go into purses and pockets.”

The discussion thread has had 10 pages of replies after someone first complained on September 25, with many reporting scratches that appear to be more like “permanent smudges”.

“Never had this issue before but mine got scratched within days of getting it!! It’s subtle but there. This is ridiculous Apple!” another user wrote.

When the new phone was launched, Apple said the iPhone 11 Pro models had the “the toughest glass ever in a smartphone”.

“And are protected against everyday spills including coffee and soda,” Apple’s press release said.

Not the first screen complaint

It should be pointed out that buyers have complained of scratching in the past when new iPhone models were released.

But with this many similar complaints, it remains to be seen whether this is a design or manufacturing issue, or just your standard online outrage.

The new iPhone 11 retail price ranges from $1199 for the 64GB model and go as high as $2499 for the 512GB Pro Max model.
