Sunshine Coast: Carpet python tries to choke nine-week-old wolfhound cross named Jasper to death

A brave pet owner has saved her nine-week-old puppy named Jasper with her bare hands after a carpet python attempted to choke the dog to death.

Footage showed the snake make a beeline towards Jasper from where it was hiding in a chilli bush before wrapping itself around the dog.

The wolfhound-cross’ owner Michelle van Schouwen, from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, didn’t hesitate to put herself in danger for the dog.

Ms van Schouwen heard heard dog crying and immediately rushed outside to help Jasper get free.  

She was forced to hit the snake with a roll of Christmas paper but when she realised the snake wasn’t moving she had to use her hands.

Ms can Schouwen threw the snake away and immediately tended to the wounds of her dog. 

‘It was just panic, so I ran and when I got to the end of the patio I just sort of froze and screamed,’ Ms van Schouwen told Win News.

‘I just saw the python wrapping all around him.’

Luckily, Jasper is in good health after the attack.

He managed to escape with a bite to his left ear and a bruised lung. 

Social media users commended the woman’s actions as brave and heroic.
